Creality CR-6 SE: The Specs, Release Date & Latest Information - PrinterMods UK Ltd

The CR-6 SE will be Creality's first-ever crowdfunded 3D printer on Kickstarter. Join us as we take a look at its specs and the latest information.

Creality has released some buzzworthy 3D printers over the last few years, especially in the consumer segment.

Now, six years into the business, the Chinese 3D printer manufacturer is trying something new by releasing the CR-6 SE on Kickstarter.

This is the first time the company has tried to finance a printer through crowdfunding, and it seems like it has big plans. According to Creality, its aim is to surpass Snapmaker’s crowdfunding record with its Snapmaker 2.0 and generate over eight million dollars.

The CR-6 SE was launched on Kickstarter on May 6 at 9 pm CST and will be available for funding until June 6, 2020.

Even though aiming for the crowdfunding record, Creality did set the funding goal to a moderate £100,000. But funders worldwide smashed that goal within minutes and already raised tenfold the amount within the first two days. So far, it seems Creality is on a good track record-wise.

Due to the immense support from the Kickstarter community with the backings surpassing the £1,000,000 milestone, Creality did reach its stretch goal and are now offering every backer a free upgrade from the stock 8-bit to a much more powerful 32-bit silent motherboard.

According to Creality, the suggested retail price will be around £430, but early backers on Kickstarter will get early bird deals for prices as low as £265. The company hasn’t announced when the machines will be delivered yet but estimates the earliest deliveries will begin in mid-June.

So, to learn more about the CR-6 SE and whether it’s worth crowdfunding, read on as we take a look at what we know about the 3D printer so far.

Features:

At first glance, the Creality CR-6 SE shares some resemblance to Creality’s – also newly released – Ender 3 V2. But it’s also got some nice features of its own.

We haven’t yet received a unit ourselves, but let’s dive into what we know so far about this svelte looking machine.

Sleek Design & Easy Setup

The CR-6 SE has a stylish appearance sprinkled with some useful features. Embedded in the base, you’ll find a little compartment for storing nozzles, needles, pliers, and other tools. The handle on the gantry enables you to carry the printer around safely without the risk of offsetting belts or tensioners.

The printer itself comes pre-assembled and should be ready out of the box within minutes. Just connect the gantry to the base with four screws, and you are ready to print.

Innovative Bed-Leveling
Probably the most noteworthy feature on the Creality CR-6 SE is the automatic platform leveling. Where on most Creality 3D printers you would have to make do with manually leveling via a sheet of paper, the photoelectric sensor on the CR-6 SE promises hassle-free automatic bed leveling. Having a truly leveled print surface should greatly improve bed adhesion and print quality overall.

Tempered Glass Plate

The Creality CR-6 SE comes with a carborundum glass plate as its build platform. It’s basically Creality’s take on the popular Anycubic Ultrabase. The glass print bed should improve overall material adhesion, reduce the need for adhesives, provide a smooth surface, and let you remove prints much more easily once cooled down.

Rigid Build

A recurring issue with fused deposition modeling (FDM) 3D printers is inconsistency in the print’s surface. The CR-6 SE is equipped with dual lead screws, which, in combination with the printer’s sturdy aluminum frame, can help to reduce vibrations, and therefore reduce Z-wobble giving a smoother finish of prints. The connector belt on top of the Z-axis ensures a synchronized movement.

Under the Hood
The CR-6 SE is outfitted with an 8-bit silent motherboard and an ATmega2560 control chip to guarantee smooth operation and thermal equality. In combination with the powerful 24V 350W MeanWell brand power supply, the CR-6 SE should be able to heat up quickly and operate at a low noise level of around 30 decibels, according to the manufacturer.

Due to the immense backing from the Kickstarter community, Creality is offering every backer a free upgrade to a much more powerful 32-bit silent motherboard, like the Ender 3 V2 features.

Touchscreen

Unlike most budget printers that come with a cheap LCD screen, Creality throws in a newly developed color touchscreen furnished with the new firmware and user interface.

Further Features:
Additional features on the Creality CR-6 SE include:

  • Modular nozzle: Creality designed the nozzle with modularity in mind. Users can disable the nozzle and change the heat block, heat sink, Teflon tube, or the nozzle tip.
  • Extruder: The redesigned extruder should allow for easier feeding of filament.
  • Filament sensor: The CR-6 SE is equipped with a photoelectric filament sensor detecting any possible filament breakage or run-out.
  • Resume print function: Outages or disconnections should be no problem for CR-6 SE because it can fully recover and resume the print when it’s back up.
